MLB star Ohtani hits 50th home run for second straight season

In Major League Baseball, Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers has hit 50 home runs for a second consecutive season. He is the sixth Major Leaguer to achieve the feat.

The Dodgers, currently leading the National League West Division, faced the Philadelphia Phillies in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The Phillies have already won the NL East title.

Ohtani was the Dodgers’ starting pitcher and leadoff batter. In the top of the first inning, he struck out Kyle Schwarber, his rival for the home run title.

Ohtani kept the Phillies hitless through five innings, with fastballs clocked at around 160 kilometers per hour and sharp breaking balls.

He left the mound with his team ahead by four runs. But Dodger relievers allowed the Phillies to take the lead, preventing Ohtani from becoming the winning pitcher.

Ohtani stayed in the game as the designated hitter.
In the bottom of the eighth, he hit a solo home run, closing the gap with Schwarber to three.

The Dodgers lost the game 6-9, but remain two games ahead of their NL West rival the San Diego Padres, who also lost on Tuesday.
