Tokyo prosecutors decide not to indict two Chinese over fake driver’s licenses

Tokyo prosecutors have decided not to indict two Chinese tourists who allegedly applied to drive in Japan using fake Taiwanese driver’s licenses.

The two Chinese nationals, a 38-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, were arrested last month, accused of illegally applying to drive in Japan in November last year. They allegedly used fake Taiwanese driver’s licenses under their names.

Taiwanese driver’s licenses can be used in Japan if a Japanese translation is attached.

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office confirmed on Tuesday that they had decided not to prosecute them, but has not given a reason.

The two tourists told investigators after their arrest that they did not know the licenses were fake.
