Bear attacks leave 3 injured in Gunma, Akita prefectures in Japan
A bear has attacked and injured two customers at a supermarket in Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
Police say they received a call at around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday that said a bear was lying on top of a customer in a supermarket in Numata City.
The bear reportedly assaulted one person in the parking lot before attacking another in the shop. Police say the two people’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Police say the animal, which was about 1.4 meters long, rampaged through the fish and sushi sections.
The shop manager says 30 to 40 customers were in the shop when the attack occurred.
The bear ran away. Police remain on alert.
Also on Tuesday, a farmer in his 20s was attacked by a bear in Gojome Town in the northern prefecture of Akita.
The man called police, saying that he was bitten and scratched by a bear in his yard at around 8 a.m. He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
About one hour after the man was assaulted, a bear appeared in the garden of the home next to his.
Police say town officials and members of a local hunters’ association captured two bears near the homes in the evening.
Officials are working to determine whether one of the bears attacked the man.

群馬県沼田市のスーパーで、火曜日の午後7時半ごろ、「クマが客の上に乗っている」と通報がありました。
クマは駐車場で1人を襲ったあと、店内でもう1人を攻撃しました。

同じ火曜日、秋田県五城目町でも20代の農家の男性が自宅の庭でクマに襲われ、手足をかまれたり引っかかれたりしました。男性は軽傷で病院で手当てを受けました。
その約1時間後、男性の隣の家の庭にもクマが現れました。
警察によると、町の職員と猟友会のメンバーがその日の夕方、近くで2頭のクマを捕獲しました。
